SUMMARY:Tribal Youth Justice Resource Center Online Learning Event: Compassion and Dependability: An Overview of a Framework for Trauma Responsive Practices in Education | October 4\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:This training is provided by the National Native Children’s Trauma Center (NNCTC) \nDate: Wednesday\, October 4\, 2023 \nTime: 9am AKT/ 10am PT/ 11am MT/ 12pm CT/ 1pm ET \nLength: 90 minutes \nSession Description: \nTrauma can leave us feeling isolated or betrayed\, which may make it difficult to trust others and receive support. Compassionate and dependable relationships create opportunities for new\, corrective emotional experiences for students impacted by trauma. \nThis webinar is on Compassion and Dependability\, one of the core guiding principles of the Healthy Environments and Response to Trauma in Schools (HEARTS) framework utilized in the Resilient Futures’ Trauma Responsive Practice in Education training curriculum. A brief overview of the HEARTS framework and the full 2-day training offering will be included. \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Apply for the Native Youth Climate Adaptation Leadership Congress (NYCALC) | Applications Accepted Until February 28\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:The National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown\, West Virginia is hosting the annual Native Youth Climate Adaptation Leadership Congress (NYCALC)\, starting June 25 – June 30\, 2023. The mission of NYCALC is to develop future Indigenous conservation leaders with skills\, knowledge\, and tools to address environmental change to better serve their schools and home communities. \nStudents will explore culture\, tradition\, and science to answer a “big question” posed at the beginning of the week. Last year’s “big question” was\, “How can Indigenous knowledge systems and western science collectively address climate change and other environmental issues?” Through addressing the “big question\,” students will lead the congress to focus on major challenges in their communities. The students create themes based on their answers to the big question. These themes can emphasize the importance of language\, elders\, political involvement\, traditional values\, cultural preservation\, economic sustainability\, and environmental awareness. \nRequirements for Indigenous youth groups interested in joining the Native Youth Congress should have between 3-5 students\, be rising high school seniors (sophomores and juniors will be considered on a case-by-case basis) and be a part of a federally recognized Native American tribe or Native American based Indigenous group. \nApplications for this program can be found at NYCALC.org and will be accepted December 1st – February 28th\, 2023.
